A Guide to Comic Books for Steve/Tony Shippers

diapurple:

You’ve watched Iron Man, Captain America and the Avengers? You ship Steve/Tony, but haven’t read a single comic? This guide is for you!

spend the last few months getting to know their continuity. However, I’ve spend a lot of the time being confused and going back and forth, because I always missed something.

Under the cut you will find a list of comics and story arcs for Captain America and Iron Man, starting at the New Avengers (2005) until Avengers Prime (2010). This includes Civil War, which is essential to understand many of the better comic-universe fanfiction. I also added some download links, short summaries and recommendations.

here-is-the-place:

When people say these books are children’s books, as if to demean them, I balk. These books dealt with themes that adults do not fully understand or wish to. It dealt with racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, prejudice, and general ignorance. These books taught us that it doesn’t matter how you were raised, but that you get to choose to be kind, loyal, brave, and true. They taught us to be strong under the pressures of this world and to hold fast to what we know to be right. These books taught me so much, they changed me as a person. So just because they’re set against a fantastical backdrop with young protagonists does not mean that their value is any less real.

Technically? These ARE children’s books. But how does that make them any lesser? These books have impacted the world, defined this entire generation. People grow up with these characters. People learn to be brave like Harry, loyal like Ron, clever like Hermione. They learn to accept themselves and find people who will accept them, which is really important when we live in a world where society sends such conflicted messages from all sides. These books are written with serious thems, adult concepts, but they’re written in a way that children can understand and enjoy. If you read Harry Potter now, does it mean the same thing it did when you were little? No, because those books grow with you, change with you. They become a part of you. That’s why you can go anywhere and find people who are proud to be in Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryfindor, or yes, even Slytherin. These books define us, give us a home both on and off the page. I can’t speak for everyone, but I can assure you all that my life wouldn’t be the same without these books.
